News on breastfeeding legislation in Arkansas.

Most states have laws protecting the rights of mothers to breastfeed. Most states specifically protect a mother's ability to nurse her child while in a public place . Arkansas has no such legislation. We hope to change that in 2007.

If you haven't already heard, the Arkansas Breastfeeding Coalition (ABC) has formed, drafted proposed legislation, and is now set on creating breastfeeding friendly laws in our state. Everyone has pooled their networking resources to make this a reality in the 2007 legislative session.  Things are moving very quickly toward sponsorship.  At this time, the Women's Caucus is considering sponsoring the proposed legislation.  There are other legislators interested in co-sponsorship as well.  You can view the proposed draft at www.arkansasbreastfeedingcoalition.org

Please support this effort by joining the ABC and contacting your state representative to ask them to support the legislation.
